The caption on this glass negative reads "Guns of Kaiser," which most likely points to German artillery from the years around the First World War, when Kaiser Wilhelm II was the German emperor. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption cards and notes added by the Bain News Service, so it remains unverified. Bain's New York agency sold news pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives, many 5 by 7 inches or smaller, reflect the fast pace of that wartime news trade. Treat the subject as a lead to check rather than a settled fact.
