The title on this glass negative gives the sitter as Louise Homer Jr., but the record notes that the name comes from unverified Bain News Service data on the negative or caption card, so the identity should be read with some caution. Bain News Service, a New York picture agency founded by George Grantham Bain, supplied news and portrait photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its negatives entered the collection now held by the Library of Congress. The small glass plate itself is worth noticing, since 5 by 7 inch negatives like this were a common working format for press photographers before film took over.
