Eleanor Roosevelt, the former First Lady, appears here in a head-and-shoulders study taken around 1945, a period when she was no longer in the White House but was active in public life. Known for her work on human rights and her later role as a United Nations delegate, she was among the most visible women in the country during and after the Second World War.
