What sets this poster apart is its direct appeal to holiday shoppers: a bright color lithograph built around children and toys, printed for the Christmas season around 1898. It was produced by the Strobridge Lithographing Company, based in Cincinnati with an office in New York, which made many of the commercial posters and advertising color prints of the era. Chromolithography made images like this affordable and eye-catching, and merchants used them to draw families toward toy counters before the holidays. The record does not name the advertiser, so the image is best read as a window onto how late-century sellers pictured the children who would help choose the gifts.
