The record names Frundsberg, an Austrian place, but the caption is unverified and no date is given. The name most likely refers to Burg Freundsberg, a medieval castle in Tyrol near Schwaz, or to the Frundsberg family, whose best-known member, Georg von Frundsberg, led Landsknecht infantry in the early 1500s. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news photo agency that supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its glass negative format points to that era of photographic practice.
