The truck carries the name of the Connecticut Copperthwaite Pie Company on its side, which makes it a piece of commercial history as much as a vehicle. Its place on an apple label board suggests the link between Connecticut orchards and the bakeries that turned their fruit into pies. In the early twentieth century, motor delivery trucks were replacing horse-drawn wagons, and companies like this one used them to reach grocers and households more quickly. Look at the lettering and the body design, which show how businesses advertised their products on the road.
