A 1925 photograph of a circus sideshow entrance, with its ticket booths and oversized painted posters, shows how these attractions drew crowds before the performance began. Traveling circuses and carnivals of the 1920s often ran a sideshow beside the main tent, and its front was built to promise the strange and astonishing. The billing language of the era, including the word "freak" used in the caption, reflects that promotional style, which later generations have largely rejected. The scene is worth studying for its lettering, its crowded frontage, and the way the posters were designed to be read from a distance.
