This negative records a fire at Fort Myer, the Army post in Arlington, Virginia, which sits across the Potomac from the capital and next to Arlington National Cemetery. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that covered local news and daily life in the 1910s and 1920s, made the picture. Its caption gives March 10, 1923 as the date, but that information is unverified. The streaks and small blemishes on the glass come from the gradual breakdown of the original coating, not from the scene itself.
