The only identifying detail this negative carries is its title, the surname De Luca, and the Library of Congress notes that even this comes from unverified information written on the negative or its caption card. George Grantham Bain's New York agency sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives document a busy trade in portraits, events and everyday scenes. Because the subject and date remain unconfirmed, the picture is best understood as an example of the agency's working output, made on glass plates valued for their fine detail in newspaper reproduction.
