A question mark in the title and a motion picture camera set this poster apart from other war images of its time. Uncle Sam, the national personification of the United States, is shown beside the camera, which asks viewers to consider who the "heroes" of the past were compared with those of the present. The poster dates to about 1914, when the European war had begun but the United States had not yet entered it. Its copyright line credits the New Electro Corporation of New York, and its subject points to how newly important film had become for showing war to the public.
