Appleton, Wisconsin: Lots of good Italian food at Victoria's

Northern Wisconsin has good food, served in ample portions, and reasonably priced. On a recent visit, following the Lawrence University Community Links from their Web page, we ended up at Victoria's at 503 West College St. This is a large Italian restaurant run by four or five Mexican brothers (!). It was quite busy on a Saturday night, with lots of people seeming to enjoy themselves.

Long story short, the portions are HUGE! The food is very good. And the prices are reasonable. I had a small salad, which was overflowing what we would use for a dinner plate at home. The pasta portion was enough to feed a family of five, and my teen-aged son, who can eat us out of house and home, could barely make a dent in the combination plate of chicken and lasagna he ordered. \

The fried calamari appetizer was sufficient to feed two and was as tender as I've had. Nicely spiced sauce on the side.

I'll be back next trip ...

Cheers,
Rob Lake
