There is a German Restaurant in the downtown area. I cannot think of the
street it is on, but I think it is somewhat across from the old B & O
Railroad station which is now a community college.

Also near downtown is a fish place that is real popular in the Wheeling
area. It is in the "market" building. I think I remember seeing other places
to eat in this area. The fish place is basically takeout, but they do have
tables. During Lent on a Friday, I can remember the line going down the
 sidewalk.

There was a brew pub downtown, but I not sure it is still open.I think it
 was called Nail City brewery.

There is Oglesby Park Lodge, and I think there is also a restaurant across
the street from there at a country club.

Jane and Michael S. wrote about this place in an issue of Gourmet a little
ways back. Here is a link to a summary of the review. There are several more
 Wheeling reviews on the site.

The place referenced is called "Coleman's Fish Market" the have the
best fish sandwich there is. Coming from Pittsburgh you would take
I-70 to Wheeling and just before the tunnel take the Souith Wheeling
exit. Stay on this road until you pass the hospital building on the
right. Take the next exit (21st St??? 28th ????) and bear to the
right. Go to next major ligh and turn right heading back toward the
hospital. At the last light before entering the hospital turn left go
one block and the Center Market building is at the next light on the
left. Turn left because the fish place is in the second bldg.
 Enjoy!!!! We always do!!!!

I know a few places in Wheeling that are good (but I can't recall any
that are great). Sorry Jerry, you're gonna have to use the phone book
 to get the exact location:

Coleman's Fish Market - Market Street - very good seafood, casual,
 decent prices.

River City Brew Works - In the Artisan Center. Good micro brewery
 with eclectic menu.

Bella Via - Good old fashioned italian place. Like mama usta make. I
believe they are only open for dinner.

Wheeling Coffee Shop - Washington Ave. Great Coffee - not much food,
 but great coffee.

Also, Olglebay has a good restaurant, but the name escapes me.....

 That's all I got!
