If I remember correctly, Gaspare worked there before branching out. Gaspare's is a noch better (IMO) but they're similar. Salute is on NE 55th and around 34th (near the Dutchess tavern, a good Husky hangout). La Dolce Vita's menu is much similar to Salute's and you're paying for ambiance. The owner tends to hang out more at Salute anyway. For "cheap" Italian, I like Stella's in the U-district. It's one of the Michelli trattorias. It's very affordable, but the recent rumor is that the service has gone sour. Anyone have a story? Simpatico gets good reviews (in Wallingford). I like it, but it's pricey. Sostanzo (in Madison Park) gets good reviews from my office. I've never been there though.

How about Italia down on Western Avenue in Downtown Seattle or La Buca in Pioneer Square. I've had good luck at both then there's alway Tratoria Michelli's in Pioneer Square.
