There is a good/traditional/cheap mex restaurant in Zilah, outside of Yakima called El Ranchito (you may have seen their tortillas in your supermarket). It is not only a restaurant but a grocery store with all varieties of dried peppers, canned goods, fresh cheese, and home made dulces. One can buy the latest in Tejano/conjunto music - tapes only - all kinds of Mexican curios priced right. They have an outside dining area (covered) perfect on a warm day. One can order warm tortillas, some picadillo, frijoles, condiments and put together your own meal (don't forget the queso fresca). Call for hours as they are wacky. I think they close at 7 p.m. on Saturday nights. Hey, your also in the middle of WA wine country, make a weekend out of it. Bueno Suerte, Andy

I grew up in eastern WA, and was a long-time fan of El Ranchito, until my last visit, which was disappointing. The food is not all that great anymore, IMO. It is a nice spot to visit though, and you can buy interesting stuff, like magic/voodoo hex candles and arasol sprays(!) there, as well as tortilla presses, Mexican comic books, spices, etc. Allen >They have an outside dining area (covered) perfect on a warm day. >One can order warm tortillas, some picadillo, frijoles, condiments >and put together your own meal (don't forget the queso fresca). >Call for hours as they are wacky.
