I was in DC this past week and ate at a wonderful
Ghanian restaurant called Bukom. It's in the
Adams Morgan section of the city on 18th street
where all the Ethiopian restaurants are.
We tried 2 of the appetizers, corn & shrimp fritters, and skewers of meat, which were chewy, but had an awesome spicy coating (maybe with some peanut butter in it).
For main courses, we tried the Palm Cream Soup, made with palm cream (young mashed palm hearts?), smoked fish, and oxtails; an Oxtail and Peanut Butter Stew; and a dish of Stewed Goat and Spinach. We ordered a different mash with each dish -- fufu, giri, and kenney (?) I don't exactly remember the names, but one was made of mashed yam, one of manioc (mashed cassava root), and one of mashed fermented corn. It was awesome. The Mamba beer was great. The decorations and the afro-pop music were terrific. We spent $15-20 per person for food and drink (tip included). Highly recommended.
