Washington DC?

Places I would recommend:

Nora
Asia Nora: same owner as Nora. Oriental/american. M St, aropund 25th St. (2 blocks) Goldoni. Italian. 23rd St between L and M Sts. (1 block) Obelisk. Italian. North side of P St. at around 20th St. (6 blocks) Mendecino Grill. American. North side of M St, about 29th St. (4 blocks) Pesce. Fish. South Side of P St, around 22nd. (4 Blocks). Kukula. Nominally a Greek restaurant, but they have excellent fish. North side of M St., around 20th. There are a couple of strip clubs next to Kukula, but the restaurant and the neighborhood are otherwise unseedy. Donatello. Italian. L St at 26th.

The ANA is at the corner of M St and 25th Sts in the West End, which abuts both Foggy Bottom and Georgetown. All the restaurants listed above are within seven blocks of the ANA.

I can't think of any purely vegetarian places to recommend. All the Indian restaurants have a pretty good selection of vegetarian dishes. I would suggest the Bombay Club, which is in the vicinity of I St and 18th (check the exact address with the hotel). This is another Clinton favorite, like Red Sage and Nora. Other choices fgor Indian would be Aditi in Georgetown (North side of M St around 36th) and the Bombay Palace at around 20th St on the South side of K St. Aditi is less grand and considerably cheaper than either the Bombay Club or the Bombay palace.

As an alternative to Indian, try Ethiopian. Washington has more Ethiopian places than any other city on earth, including adis Ababa. I would recommend Meskerem in Adams Morgan.

Hope this helps. For additional picks, I find that the Zagat Guide is about the best of all the books.

Don't miss Cashion's Eat Place, on Columbia Rd NW, just west of 18th St in Adams-Morgan. The food is simply AMAZING...Chef/owner Jane Cashion is creative, uses fresh ingredients, and really cares about the quality of the food. Make reservations !! There's NO way you'll get a table otherwise.

Take a look at the Post's review of the place at

Pam,

Try this place....

It's Krammer's and Afterwords...book store restaurant and coffee bar! It's on Dupont Circle...easy to get to on metro. The food has always been great, breakfast, lunch , or dinner! I go there EVERY time I'm in DC! Browse the book store then go eat! Or go by late and browse the books and have a Cap and Congaq (spelled wrong I know bad week) and some thing sweet. It is a neat, funky place...I highly reccomend it!

Enjoy,

Ditto to both places, esp. Kinkead's, which is our absolute favorite. Never been disappointed.

Have heard repeatedly that Red Sage is overrated. Interesting space but overpriced, not great food.

A very good place I tried in that vicinity is Goldoni's, on 23rd, near L I think. It's Northern Italian, the chef is from Venice and used to work at Galileo.
