Other things I have a hankering for : (but are hard to satify in Portland) are Brazilian, Yucatan (a particular : variety of Mexican), and Caribbean

The Afghan restaurant in Arlington on Route 1 just south of Crystal City has gotten good reviews. As for Brazilian, we liked Amazonia (in NW DC by Tenleytown metro) alot. I can't say how authentic either are, since these are the only Afghani and Brazilian restaurants we've ever eaten at, but we did like both, service was good, etc.
