The Russia house...

The Russia House has live music (at least on Fridays) and excellent food. My favorite is the duck in sour cherry sauce. It might be the most pricy dining in Herndon, but worth it. Their vodka selection is stellar <grin>.

The restaurant is across the street from Zeffirelli's at the bottom of Pine Street. On the other side of the corner is the Great Harvest Bread Bakery. If you are on Elden Street heading towards Reston from Centerville, take a left at the light on Center Street. At that corner is another great restaurant, IceHouse Cafe. They also have live music on Friday nights.

The Russia House is definitely worth a visit. They are without a
doubt the most pricey restaurant in Herndon. Entrees at dinner range from a low of around $16.00 to a high of $25.00. The dinners are all served with side vegetables even though this is not noted on the menu. I just had dinner there on Saturday evening and the food was as good as it ever was. I had filet mignon, cooked exactly as ordered, and my friend had the duck breast with sour cherry sauce. The side veggies on both entrees were scalloped potatoes (yummy, with a hint of nutmeg), braised red cabbage (great), grilled eggplant slices (OK, definitely not the least bitter), and steamed broccoli (too crunchy for my taste, perfect for George's). They get high points for serving everything on heated plates so that the food stays nice and hot from start to finish. The rolls are good too.

    Their vodka menu is extensive.

Zefirelli's. This restaurant is good, but definitely spotty. I
tend to eat lunch there and often order from the specials menu. I think they tend to undercook the pasta (I prefer slightly toward the well done side than noticably al dente). The service varies widely depending on the day, hour, how you're dressed, and if they know you or not.

I wouldn't eliminate them from a visit but they are definitely not
going to be the best Italian restaurant you've ever visited unless you've only gone to (ugh) The Olive Garden.

Re: Russia House
We've been several times. Excellent service, strolling musicians on Fri-Sat. night, outstanding food. It's pricey but we used our Entertainment book card (for the first time at least). they also have about 20 different kinds of flavored vodka. We would highly recommend the place.
