As for Thai restaurants stay away from Chintana on King Street in Old Town Alexandria. I had gotten a very bad case of MSG poisoning there, which is too bad because the place is nice and the service was great.

I can never remember the name, but one of my favorites in the area is on Connecticut Ave. right across from the Cleveland Park metro. In warmer weather, the offer outdoor seating, where the sounds from the blues cafe next door can be clearly heard (without all the smoke you inhale actually being inside of the blues cafe.)

I think you mean Thai Town, which is across from the Woodley Park metro, not Cleveland Park. It's excellent. Good food, good service, and a pretty dining room.
