Try Sam and Harry's off Dupont Circle. Outstanding strip steaks, beautiful filets, and sides that are both delicious and quite generous. Much better than Morton's (the one in Tyson's Corner, anyway...).

Hard to do much better for crab cakes than the Market Lunch at Eastern Market on Capitol Hill.

Clydes: On Sunday, my wife and I went to Clydes in Tysons. The service was GREAT- Chris, our waiter, was attentive and the steak was surprisingly delisious.

Houstans: If the Houstans in Georgetown (Wisc. Ave) is anywhere near as good as the one in Chicago, you'll get your money's worth!

P.J. Skidoos: If you can deal with the relaxed atmosphere, a great prime rib dinner for the money- 10 oz. for 8.95; 12 oz. for 10.95.

Enjoy,

In DC, the Prime Rib or The Palm are both better'n Mortons IMHO, but not a bit cheaper, so be woarned. Some people swear by Sam and Harry's, but I find it more a place to do business while eating than eat...

The best deal around is in Baltimore, McCafferty's. Great steaks in a relaxed atmosphere for less money than any of the DC places mentioned.

Crab cakes are subject to religious warfare. Me, I like the ones at O'Brians in Annapolis or Harris's Crab House on Kent Island. Hayman's down in Edgewater is good too. I don't eat crabcakes in DC, and I don't need to drive to B'more to find good ones, so I can't comment...
