Russia House

I meant to post this a while ago but never got around to it. My husband and I went to the Russia House (in Herndon) for our 5th anniversary dinner. We had been once before and loved it just as much the second time.

We started off with the russian appetizers for two, just to try it out. We didn't particularly like it, but I'd say that was more our parochial tastebuds than poor ingrediants or improper preparation. (The caviar was good.)

We both had French Onion soup, delicious. For the entree, I had the beef stroganoff (sliced beef tenderloin and mushrooms in a creamy sauce). It was one of the best beef entrees I've ever had. My husband had the Steak Nicholeia Flambe (butterfly filet mignon prepared table side) and also loved it. We also each tried one of their flavored vodkas, which were wonderful. I forgot what dessert was, but we both enjoyed them.

The service was not as good as last time, but overall good. The place was packed but the service was still attentive. The atmosphere is wonderful, complete with wandering musicians (on Fri and Sat only, I think).

Anyway, we used our entertainment card (buy one entree, get one free) and it still came out close to $90 (including tip, and yes, we tipped on the full bill). That's quite pricey for us, but we thought it was worth it considering the fantastic food and atmosphere.
