to the person who is visiting Washington, DC and needs to know about restaurants: The city has some of the finest choices in the country. For Italian, I recommend Piccolo, which is in G-Town and I think it is off of M or Wisconsin Street. There is also real Mexican food at Enriqueta's , also in G-Town. One place we always hit when in the city (been there about eight times and spent a great summer there as an intern) is a German restaurant called Cafe Mozart. It is in the back of a place called the German Deli, and has a supper selection of German candy out front. We took some real live Germans there, and they loved it. G-Town also has some great Vietnamese restaurants (Vietnam Georgetown) which I don't think they take credit cards. Ice cream is everywhere, if you like that (I do). Lunch can be had rather cheaply at the Old Post Office or believe it or not, the train station (food courts). We have never had much luck with breakfast, but I do advice you skip Roy Rogers. Have fun! [email removed]

Inexpensive breakfasts (at least of the sitdown variety) are difficult to find in that area. (I work at 18th & K.) There is a food court at International Square (18th & I), though, and you can get bagels (good ones) and bagel sandwiches there at the Bagels, Etc. shop. Other places in there will have bacon & egg sandwiches, etc., for those who prefer traditional chlorestorol breakfasts. There's also a Wendy's on K St., between Connecticut and 18th. As for adventurous meals, there's not much in that area for people on a budget. My suggestion would be to hop on the Metro Orange Line at Farragut Square, and head out to the Clarendon stop in Virginia ($2.30 round trip). There are at least a dozen inexpensive ethnic restaurants there: Vietnamese, Persian, Chinese, Salvadoran, Morrocan, Cuban, Peruvian, etc. (and chili). If you decide to do that, e-mail me, and I'll give you more details. ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- "HA! You have got to try Scholls on K and 20th (or 21st?). It is inexpensive, clean and has lots of variety in their breakfast foods. The baked goods are made on site. It is cafeteria style and the seating area is large and comfortable. Lunch is also great. A group of seventh graders you say? Let me know the day you might be at Scholls so I can go elsewhere. Enjoy!
