To All, >From: [email removed] (pHd) > >> Am assisting a co-worker in her DC search for great pancakes! (No, not IHOP.) >> We're talking big, fluffy breakfast style. The restaurant should be >> METRO-accessible as she doesn't have access to a car. > >Sherrill's Diner on Capitol Hill is one of the best kept diner secrets in D.C. I second that emotion. If you want to flash back to the 40's dinner experience, this is it, the original malt signs, clocks, and all. There is a Chrysler radiator/heater in the front which makes the Lincoln Memorial seem new. >The owner, Sherrill, is quite a trip. She's this old, eccentric women who >must be at least 90 years old and she's always there on weekends. She >squawked at me once for putting my hat down on the counter. Talk to her about the Oscar Nomination in the cabinet behind the cashier - and take a seat for a groovy ride... The Place also has fantastic pastries. The aplle turnovers and strudels are the pick. But best of all, Sherrill will box it up tied with string (you don't find that much). The string trick takes some time; after all, she does have some age in the hands. >It's on Independence Avenue and is close to the Capitol South Metro and If this is the same place I'm thinking, it is directly on Penn Ave before you get to 3rd St SE. Eastern Market Metro and Capitol South are both about 5 blocks. Look for the Footlocker on the corner of Penn & 3rd. It's next to that. Don't forget your hat and 3 button coat...*Ted
