It's not too convenient from many places in the DC area, but we like Little Portugal in Manassas. We first tried it because it was in the Entertainment book. Also good is Andalusia in Bethesda. Don

Paella in the DC area

It's a Spanish restaurant. Their original location is in Rockville and they opened a new location in Bethesda a couple of years ago. Most of their food is quite good. As far as atmosphere and birthdays are concerned, it's not a Chucky Cheese (sp?) but I'm sure you could have fun there. :-) Jan
If I were going for my birthday and someone else were picking up the tab, I would go to Taberna de la Alabardero. It is one of the best restaurants I have been to in the area. It is very fancy for a special occasion or a romantic date. If I wanted to celebrate my birthday with some good friends, sangria, and lots of food (ie lots of little tapas dishes all over the table), I would go to Jaleo (i believe it actually means joyous celebartion in spanish). It is on 7th street & G (I think). And, they actually make a better paella then the more expensive Taberna. Have fun! Mia
I was at Lauriol Plaza last night (on 18th St, just NE of Dupont Circle), and noticed Paella on the menu. I didn't get it though, but I thought I'd mention it. It's reasonable too, a 'small' : paella (enough for two, at least if you''ve had an appetizer) is about : $18.
