I'm quite pleased with the Thunder Grill, which opened a couple of weeks ago in Union Station. I've eaten there a few times and been pleased with their food and service. Good chicken enchiladas and a salmon salad to die for. And for Tex-Mex that almost makes me think I'm back in Austin, there's the Red River Grill (I think that's its name) on Massachusetts a couple of blocks east of there.

It's been mentioned many times in this forum but if you don't like chains, then a place called Tortilla Factory in Herndon might be worth a visit. It's New Mexico style as opposed to true Tex-Mex. I really like their salsa. Moderately hot, but hot not from jalapenas and now I blocking on the name of the spice/herb that they use. But the salsa is also blended to a smooth consistency rather than a watery/chunky unblended mix favored in many places. -jim

That's just noth of the univesity on the east side of Rt 1 in strip center behind the Town Hall Liquor store. In Beltsville, the is a restaurant called - I think Mexicali or something and it is also of the east side of Rt. 1 just north of the beltway and the USDA Library. This is good southern Mexican food- very good cooking from people from that region.
