I'm told that the cafeteria at the Department of Transportation (7th & D SW, above the L'Enfant Plaza metro) makes very good cheesteaks. I believe that the cafeteria is open to the public.

Trio's is generally decent enough (it's leagues better than what most of the pizza joints around here think a cheesesteak is supposed to be :/), but the best I've found in the area is at George's (The King of Falafel and Cheesesteaks, Philly Style -- their neon says so!) at 28th and M northwest. George's also is arguably the best Lebanese middle-eastern I've had, though I confess to not trying as many places in the area as I'd like yet. Open 'til 11 PM most days, 4 AM Thursday through Saturday, and closed Sunday. Go check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

(Anyone ever tried Laibela at 14th & P? I keep on meaning to drop in, as it's so close to my house, but I haven't found any reviews of it yet, and I'm somewhat leery of blind-dating restaurants...)

Mario's Pizza House in Arlington on Wilson Boulevard near Clarendon. Tell 'em how you want it fixed (provolone, onions, green peppers, etc). They have pretty darn good pizza by the slice, too.
