Try the Crescent City restaurant on King Street in Old Town Alexandria. About the 1100 block, I think. My friends from New Orleans tell me it's absolutely authentic. They also have maque choux (gesundheit!) as a side dish and a fried oyster po'boy that'll make you homesick. Prices aren't bad, either. Around $7.95 or so for a HUGE sandwich.
