I had dinner last night at the Fox and Hound restaurant in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC. Not only was the food good and inexpensive, we had a great time. If you have a favorite Neighborhood Restaurant/Bar please list it, I would like to give it a try. TF
Washington, DC
Good Neighborhood Restaurants and Bars
Billy Martins Tavern is the local bar for Georgetown, very good food too.
I love Colonel Brooks' Tavern, in Brookland (less than a block from the Brookland-CUA stop on the Red line). I went to CUA as an undergrad, and work here now. Good, big sandwiches and entrees that are at least respectable and occasionally brilliant. Lots of good beer selections (but stay away from any product of the Wild Goose Brewery), and, except for Friday and Saturday late-nights, the college crowd is usually not annoying. Very good "neighborhood" feel. Try Mrs. Brooks' Tollhouse Pie and forget there ever was a Cheesecake Factory. :-) Plus, there's a Dixieland band every Tuesday night. I put the Col's kids through braces with my bar tab, I love that place so much. Pity I live more than a stumble away these days. -Joe Murphy "Slimy--yet satisfying!" [email removed] -"The Lion King"

In Laurel, MD, it's Pasta Plus -- homemade pasta and a new wood-burning pizza oven. Looks like a dive, but what a find!

In the middle of the Adams Morgan hub-bub, there's a neighborhood bar called "Millie And Al's." It's dimly lit, packed with locals (at least non-tourists), serves pitchers cheap, and has huge pizzas (they'll give you a plate of pepperoncinis if you like). If you head south on 18'th (from the intersection of Columbia) Millie And Al's is on the right side, not more than a block or two down. It's not much to look at - just a dark storefront. Ireland's Four Provinces (near the Uptown) is also nice, but much less of a dive. Live music. Some good Irish beers on tap. Traditional hefty food (meat and potatoes paradise). Have fun, Andy Russo

The F&H (as it called by the neighbors) is the best! Great jukebox and the stiffest drinks in the city....if you don't mind drinking alcohol that comes in plastic bottles. ;-)
