Le Galleois on King Street in Alexandria is excellent. In Arlington, Le Cafe Parisienne Express is fast and wonderful--with a French-Moroccan accent.

I understand that the Lion d'Or ain't what it used to be (since I didn't like what it used to be, maybe that's not such a bad thing). I had lunch a couple of times at George (on K street about 19th) before I moved the office to Reston and found it one of the best French restaurants around. Also expensive. If you can stand to spend a little less money, La Chaumiere in Georgetown is one of the most pleasant restaurant experiences around. Provincial French; not in the class of the Auberge Francois, but also not such a long drive. Peg

Herb is right, but it is "Le Gaulois" in Alexandria. On King Street near U.S. 1. Country French and excellent food. You won't spend more than $50 / person, unless you purchase expensive wine. Alan Inouye I like to eat.
LE GAULOIS CAFE RESTAURANT 1106 KING ST ALEXANDRIA VA Sorry, I spelled it incorrectly before. Its about 2 or 3 blocks west of the intersection of King and Washington Street, in downtown Alexandria. The other one I mentioned is: CAFE PARISIAN EXPRESS 4520 LEE HWY ARLINGTON VA Both have terrific food; but Le Gaulois has the better ambience. If you're in a hurry, however, the Parisian Express is very fast. Bon chance! PS Your email address bounced... Le Rivage on Water Sreet in DC, Le Gaulois on King street in Old Town alexandria, L'Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls VA is the best, but reservations needed well in advance. LE

Not a French Establishment, and quite a bit out of the City, but the Inn at Little Washington is one of the most celebrated restaurants in the world. It's an hour or so out of the city, though. If you have a rental car its doable, and they usually have space on weeknights. Forget weekends, unless youare very lucky.
