Try Tony Cheng's Mongolian Barbecue on H St between 6th & 7th. Or Mr Yung's on 6th. Or the Capitol City Brewing Company (Warning: Brewpub. Avoid the fancy entrees - great sandwiches) on 11th and H Sts. Or The Dixie Grill on 10th between E and F (across from Ford's Theater) For lunch while out touristing, the Food Court at the Post Office Pavilion is ok, as is the food court at Union Station. If you want to venture a little further out into the city, Cafe Luna at 17th & P NW is really good. We have a local pizza chain called Armand's with a location on Capitol Hill - not TOOO far from where you'll be. They're good. If you're interested in places in other neighborhoods (remember, Metro is a wonderful thing), repost, or email me. I love to eat in DC, and love to talk about food. And, if you really NEED a chain type place, the Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, TGI Fridays and the American Cafe are all within walking distance of your hotel.

Family Restaurants in Downtown DC

Clydes in Georgetown is closed for renovations. However, your metion of it brought to mind Chadwick's, also in Georgetown (K St), and Music City Roadhouse (31st St) >Robert A. wrote: >> My family of 5 is traveling to Washington DC (heavily edited)

Germaines is renovating after a fire - should reopen any day now - call before you go. (Although, I prefer Melati at Cleveland Park to Germaines). How adventerous are these children ? When my family comes I have had a great deal of luck just turning them loose in Adams-Morgan, and letting them pick a restaurant, any restaurant. And, if you don't mind spending money, Marrakesh (misspelled, I am sure) on New York Ave is such fun... 7 course Morrocan meal, served traditional style, in a GREAT looking space. Just make sure that you have reservations. It gets terribly busy there. And allow lots of time to eat.
I haven't been there in some time, but Tony Cheng's Mongolian Barbecue in Chinatown used to be lots of fun. You select the ingredients, hand them in a dish to the chef, and he stir-fries them for you on a huge grill as you watch. I don't think it was terribly expensive, and even the pickiest of eaters who doesn't think he likes Asian food will be able to put something together to suit his tastes.
