>Eat First is open again, which is very good news.

I just wanted to second the above recommendation. I am very glad that Eat First is back; and it seems to be just as good as it was. At least the rice paper wrapped chicken is still excellent, I haven't yet tried anything else.

Another Chinatown restaurant which is decent is the amusingly-named New Big Wong, which has the important advantage that it DELIVERS, a great boon if you live in Capitol Hill.

I would also like to know what happened to Golden Palace, but as an alternative Lu Garden does pretty good dim sum. Back when they were competing w/ Golden Palace, they were definitely second rate but they have improved quite a bit. When GP closed some of the waitstaff moved over to Lu Garden, and I have wondered if maybe some of the kitchen staff did too. Oh, and if you go to Lu Garden, keep walking past the touristy, congealing buffet and go straight upstairs to the Dim Sum floor.

BTW, all of the above restaurants are on the 600 block of H St. NW.

Perhaps, but I definitely wouldn't recommend New Big Wong
unless it's your only option. I haven't been there in five or so years, but my experiences with it ranged from bad to mediocre until I finally gave up. If you're in Chinatown (so delivery isn't the issue), I'd recommend Full Kee, and "third" the recommendation for Eat First (assuming it's as good as it used to be; haven't gotten out there yet to try them again). Mehak, just around the corner, is Indian rather than Chinese, but is also very good (though the portions are a little small).

Oops. Forgot to mention Full Kee in my previous post, it is of course your best choice in Chinatown. As for New Big Wong, it really isn't bad. I think it has probably improved a lot in the last 5 years, as I too have heard that it used to be awful. But I agree that unless you need something delivered, your best bets are Full Kee and Eat First.

Also, the Burma restaurant on 6th off H is great. Not Chinese, Burmese (obviously), never crowded, and really good food. Try the Green Tea salad
