Me mum prefers China : Chef. There is another place in Silver Spring, not far from the Silver Spring Metro Station, that I would also recommend. It's called (?) Orient East. Its in a shopping center very close to the intersection of East-West Highway (MD410) and Wayne Avenue/Colesville Road. --- C. Dim Sum
Phil A. wrote: > > Does anyone know of a Chinese restaurant in northern VA > that offers dim sum? > > -- This comes up regularly here. From personal experience Fortune in Bailies Crossroads and Reston are very good. (As a matter of fact, Fortune is the *ONLY* chineese restaurant in this area that I actually see chineese eating in. My brother-in-law, a native of Taiwan gives it high marks). -Ron
Mark's Duckhouse on Route 50 ( near 7 corner) is also good for dim sum as well as noodle soups. They have lunch dim sums as well. Usually, you'd see only chinese ppl eating there. On Saturday and Sunday, you can find excellent Dim Sum at the Hunan Palace on Gaither Road/Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg/Rockville. Don't be fooled by the name. You have to ask for the "Chinese" menu and not be afraid to point to other's food and ask for it--or an explanation. Enjoy! I'll be there Saturday! Adam

Did the Golden Palace ever reopen? Thanks. There's New Fortune in Gaithersburg-- -big- place serving Dim Sum starting at 1100 on weekends. Matt Feinstein

I must say that when we were there, the restaurant had two HUGE Chinese parties going on (a wedding and possibly a birthday party or something.... not sure) and I would think that to draw that many Chinese people, they must do something right. Our meal was not on the list, however. Katie

A&J is excellent for what it is, but it's Northern style food and doesn't bear much resemblance to Hong-Kong style dim sum. --scott

Heh heh... Went there when it first opened, I was mighty excited that there was a restaurant serving dim sum all the time. We tried many dishes, which ranged from tolerable to disgusting (can expand on this in another post if anyone is interested). Then, on the way home, both my wife and I felt incredibly sick, likely due to unclean conditions. I have no doubt that we didn't order the best items, but since this happened on our first time there, we have no interest in ever returning. I can't believe how many people profess to like the place, our experience must have been very different from others, but I'm not too forgiving if a restaurant makes me sick on the first visit. For dim sum, it's the New Fortune for us!
