The mall is the last one on that side of the street before Manakee Street on the left. Just beyond it on the same side is a Kohr's ice cream place and a Cameron's Seafood store. If the only thing on the right is the subway line, you've gone too far! I've only been in there once, and judging from the "feel" of the place, it's a local hangout for Cubanos. Nothing fancy: sandwiches served in a plastic basket a la Jerry's Subs, as I recall.
Washington, DC
Cuban Corner, Rockville?
It is quite good, but small, not more than 15 tables. The prices for some items are out of line in comparison with Miami (mostly the potajes) but most items are both reasonably priced for this area and authentically made. The owner, Joaquin Cabrejas is a mainstay of the local anti-Castro Cuban community, and a truly nice person. While I am from Northern Virginia, I try to eat there once a week when I am in Gaithersburg. The address is 825 Hungerford Drive. Phone : (703) 279-0310. BTW there is another Cuban restaurant in the area, this one for a long-time, now located in Clarendon. La Cantinita Havana Cafe (3100 Clarendon Blvd, (703) 524-3611). It is much larger and a bit more "fancy". I haven't eaten there since I stopped working in Ballston. The owners also are lovely people, but the food quality has gone downhill over the years, and authenticity as well, due to accommodation of the food preferences of the local Central American community. Still worth a visit if you like Cuban food and are closer to N.VA. BTW, they started opening counters in food eateries at some Metro stations like Farragut West a while back. Stay away from them unless you like Mexican food, the Cuban items were badly made, cold and totally lacking flavor and authenticity when I tried them. ---Dave Krasnow <To reply to me by e-mail, please remove "nothome."> On Wed, 09 Aug 2000 23:37:30 -0400, [email removed] (Ramon L. There is one at Farragut *North* Metro, but it doesn't have a Cuban place. However, it does have an excellent and reasonable Mexican counter, Guapo's Express. Leo
