"Does anyone know where in DC to get a good quality Sunday champagne brunch for under $20? "

Two possibilties: Xing Kuba in upper Georgetown; Taverna Cretekou in Old Town Alexandria.

I had a really great brunch last Sunday at Mango Mikes on Duke street in Alexandria. There was a steel drum player and a great buffet with jerk chicken, black beans and rice, eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, sausage (spicy and not) bacon, great muffins, lotsa fresh fruit, fried potatoes. Plus there was a chef there making omelets to order. There was a nice spicy sauce you could put over it. There were also chicken quesadillas and a pork loin (sliced to order) with a great fruit salsa. This was $9.95 and for $12.95 you could get unlimited mimosas. doesn't quite fit the Champagne brunch request but mimosas are made from champagne. Anyway, it was a really nice brunch.

While I totally agree that the quality of the brunch at Xing Kuba is high, I'd find it pretty difficult to get out of there for under $20. First, the brunch only gives you a single glass of champagne, so if you have any more than that, it adds up quickly. Also, the tapas, dim sum stuff is all priced at around $5 or less, but you'd probably want to order at least 2 or 3 a piece.

I'd recommend the brunch at Trumpets. For $12.95 you get your choice of entrees, unlimited champagne or vodka drinks (along with fresh juice) and unlimited trips to a bar with interesting salad type stuff and breads. This one is easily gotten out of for under $20.

The Holiday Inn in Bethesda has a wonderful champagne/buffet brunch. The last time I went it was $15.95 per person (and it's been a while since I've been there--it's a difficult place to go when one is on a diet! :-).
