Cafe Mozart is in the back of the German Deli, on H St between 13th and 14th Streets, NW. A few years ago, this was a rather seedy location, within easy walking distance of the 14th St peep shows, etc - but you only noticed that at night. Now that whole area is being transformed; there are lots of new buildings and new restaurants & nightclubs are also opening there. This is still the eastern edge of the high-rise expansion, near the Convention Center and the old Greyhound Bus station (now an office building, with two good restaurants); also three blocks from Hecht's downtown, and a block from the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

The German Deli makes up the front; it's basically a take-out, with lots of imported German foods and a sandwich shop. Cafe Mozart, in the back, is quiet, fairly large, and much fancier. When we went there was a pianist. It was comfortable, and the food was good. Typical German/Austrian food, moderately priced (not inexpensive). It was a friendly and hospitable, though not informal, place - I recommend it.

Another good German restaurant, by the way, is Old Europe on Wisconsin Avenue (Glover Park). Parking is easier downtown, though!
