The best sushi bar in town, overall, is probably Sushi-Ko on Wisconsin Ave. It gets very crowded, so go on an off-night. The best actual sushi can probably be had at Unkai, on 25th St. N.W. between M & L, but its very very expensive. The lowest hassle sushi bar in town may well be Sushi Taro at 17th & P (except that there's nowhere to park; take the Metro to Dupont Circle) where the Sushi is okay and it's never crowded.

My roommate likes fish a _lot_ :) and we've eaten at Atami in Clarendon quite often when the mood hits. They have an all-you-can-eat special: $24.95. Anything you order up to that is charged as usual; anything over that is free.

Easily accessed by Metro: come out of the Clarendon Metro, make a u-left-turn, and walk about 1/2 a block. Atami's right across the street.

No question - hand's down the winner must be The Japan Inn at Wisconsin and R street. Authentic, expensive, nationally acclaimed. Second on my list would be Sushi Taro, on 17th Street at P. Kinda crowded, not particularly Japanese, but pretty decent. There are quite a few mediochre offerings in Georgetown, but without further research, their names escape me.

Kampai and bob appetit!

My choice for best sushi bar is Tachibana in Arlington. It's near the VW dealer, in an old bank building. The sushi there is excellent and the service is great too. I go there with a friend who is a Japanese linguist, who lived in Japan for many years and married a Japanese. Tachibana is their family's favorite sushi restaurant.

I really like Sakana, a small place on P St, b/n 21st and 22nd. Always fresh fish, reasonable prices, and really nice owner/manager/staff. I recommend it highly for an uncomplicated but satisfying meal.
