Boy did you! :-) Living near Fairfax, I have found a number of excellent restaurants in and around the area.

-- Indian: The Connaught Place in Fairfax "Proper" as it were
Excellent service, delicious weekday lunch buffets (most lunch buffets
seem as if they threw out what was leftover from the night before. This
one seems as if they came in that morning and decided, "What would be
delicious to prepare today?" and did!) very quiet and pleasant ambience.

-- Artie's in Fairfax Circle
Owned by the people who own the Carlysle Grand Cafe in Arlington.
Usually above average "team" service, very good food, delicious
desserts. My favorites are their crabcake like appetizer (can't
recall the exact name however) the horseradish coleslaw and their
   potato side dishes.

-- Carlos O'Kelly's off 236 (I think) heading towards Fairfax
Good mexican food. Not elite by any means, but very tasty and
filling. Routinely has excellent service. Good frozen margs.

-- Squire Rockwell's off 236 at Prosperity
Good service. Excellent roasted chicken dinner (and I love their
potato side dish as well). Delicious french onion soup. Above par
salad bar. A very rustic english pub like ambience.

In Vienna, just outside of Fairfax you have to choose from:

-- That's Amore
Italian food and A LOT OF IT! "Family size" servings mean that one
order is enough for two. A great place to go with a lot of people and
   share dishes.

-- "Your Place" Formerly known as Bahar Iranian restaurant
Hard to find this place. Look for the place marked "Restaurant" in
the Magruder's shopping center. Very small, casual, sort of a clean
hole in the wall type place with excellent service and delicious food!
Beware the green sauce they serve alongside the bread. VERY hot but
addictive. Their drink selection leaves a lot to be desired, however.

-- Panshir for good middle eastern food. I forget exactly what type of
food this is, but I really enjoyed it.

-- Tara Thai: Excellent Thai food in a really cool sea blue colored
   atmosphere. Good service.

-- The Vienna Grill for cajun style food in a slightly upscale atmosphere.
The only drawback to this restaurant seems to be that the tap room
directly beneath it gets a little loud during dinner, but not
uproariously so. Check it out for lunch if that bothers you.

Panjshir is Afghani and it is excellent. Aarathi is a good Indian restaurant in Vienna. Nizam's is a good Turkish restaurant in Vienna. Closer to Fairfax City is Bombay Bistro on Chain Bridge Road just off Rte. 29, a very good Indian restaurant.
