From Staples Mill, got to Broad ST. take a left like you are going downtown. turn left on Boulevard, go past Bill's BBQ and look for a small brick building close to the street on the right just before the car wash. There is a channel 12 billboard in the front yard along with a J&R Oyler pit and a couple of picnic tables. The owner travelled the country learning BBQ and worked with an old man in the mountains of NC. He cooks on an Oyler and the BBQ is good but not great - best you will find in Richmond. There are no tables inside and if you get there at lunch time you will stand in line for a while.

Not in my opinion. The closest thing to Barbecue around Richmond is the Smoky Pig in Ashland, and it was bland and tasteless to me. Besides, they serve beets as a side dish.

DanGill is right. No good BBQ on the Northside. Head to the Willow Lawn area (just West of The Shoppes At Wilow Lawn Mall) in the near West End and eat at Extra Billys. Commercial fare and not as good as the place on Boulevard but you can sit while you eat and drink.

The best barbecue in Richmond has got to be "Extra Billy's" located on West Broad Street near the Willow Lawn shopping center. They cook their meat (pork, beef, chicken) over a genuine wood-fired hickory pit behind the building.

I've been away from Richmond for several years, but the folks who have already responded are right...there is no good BBQ in Richmond. However, if you head down I64 toward Williamsburg you will find a little BBQ place on the right side of the road just before the Williamsburg exit. Great pulled pork. Can't remember the name. Maybe someone else will know.
