One very interesting place is the Blue Crab on Pretty Lake road. A small place in a mostly residential neighborhood. They specialize in cajon-biased sea food. The stuffed clams are very good, and tend to be moderately spicy. It is a very local place, with good to very good food that usually surprises you a little. Nice fresh local fish in a cream sauce, with bits of hot sausage in the sauce. Costs about $25 or more per person (though they sometimes have interesting wines that will get you to spend a lot more) The atmosphere is plain and simple, the food is good. A good combination of hot, local and unique. Another good option is Nawab indian resturant. Military highway at the military circle mall. Low price, with very good food. I have never ordered anything hot there. Normally I start at a new resturant with mild, and work up to see where it goes. I ordered mild my first time at nawab, and was so impressed with the seasonings that I have never wanted to hide it with hot spices. I am not a big tandori fan, and was not impressed by their tandori chicken, but everything else has been very good. And if all else fails, stop by the bar in the norfolk airport hilton and if Joe is working ask him for recommendations. He probably doesn't remember me by name, but he knows all the resturants. He and an ex-coworker told me about the blue crab, and a few other good, but more conventional places. Gerard
