I drove up to Nellysford, VA to the Blue Ridge Pig on Rt 151 to see if the BBQ I had there was as good as I remembered it from my 1st visit there about 3 years ago. We were drinking tequila that evening and sometimes it clouds my judgement ;-)

Well, this place is an interesting lil' joint.
It's stuck onto the side of a gas station with a smokehouse out back. You notice the woodfire smell before you see the place. Always a good sign. It's pretty small with only about 4 tables inside and mostly geared towards carry out.

I got the rib plate and my wife got the pulled pork sammich w/slaw. They do slow smoke the meat over wood coals but for some reason, it just doesn't have that wood smoke flavor very strong, i don't know why. They use an unusual mustard based sauce that is really tasty and their sides of potato salad and beans are awesome. I think I liked their beans best of all. They make a damn fine pulled pork sammich, much better than their ribs which I doubt I'll get again, but next time up, I'll definitely get another BBQ sandwich with a side of them beans! I'm a card-carrying devotee of the Carolina Church of BBQ but I did indeed like their mustard sauce! I've had other mustard sauces before but none that was as good as this. It had a sweet twang that was mighty bodashus!

The place is run by Stevie, Strawberry, & Mary and their phone number is 361-1170 ( i think the area code is 804, should be same as for Charlottesville ) They're open daily 11am-8pm. From Charlottesville, take Rt 29 south to Rt 6 North to Rt 151 West, hang a left and it's about a mile past the Nellysford sign. They also smoke turkey, beef & chicken too. And they have some fine desserts. The Hawaian Pineapple Upside Down Cake was rockin'!!!!

It was a nice drive from Richmond where I live, the scenery was great with the leaves just begining to change colors. Nothing like a good BBQ Quest Roadtrip in the mountains of VA in Autumn!
