The Tree Room at Robert Redford's Sundance resort, Utah. I frequented this place when I commuted weekly to Provo on business during the late 80's. Occasionally, we'd see Redford dining here with friends. Now, 700 miles away, Sundance is mostly warm memories. The Tree Room restaurant boasts a spectacular mountain setting in the shadow of Mount Timpanogos and the Wasatch Range near Provo. Try to dine around dusk. Yes, a river (well, actually, a small stream) runs through it (er, well, just outside the front door). The restaurant is decorated with distinctive Native American crafts (and a huge Navajo rug mounted on the rear wall). The food is some of the best in Utah. I especially enjoy their pepper steak topped with mango chutney and flamed in Grand Marnier. Oh! what a setting. In spring, it's wildflowers; in summer it's live theater and horseback rides; in fall it's quaking aspen; in winter it's skiing. This place could have been a national park. After dinner, don't miss the splendid gift shop next door. Well, why not go all the way. Treat yourselves to a romantic "cottage" for the night. Not inexpensive, mind you, but memorable.
