Looked very nice, pasta and wine for lunch £5.50. Ate at Kite's, lovely place, 2 courses for £ (either a starter, eg blinis and smoked salmon, or dessert -- lovely pots au chocolat!).

If you like vegetarian, you could try the Blakehead vegetarian cafe at the back of the bookshop in Micklegate. For eating on the run, try the hot roast buns from the place in Gillygate. There are loads of tea shops and cafes in Gillygate. The fish and chips from Petergate chippy are great too. Beams restaurant down Stonegate is lovely, and also very old. There are loads of good pubs offering good lunches.

Hope this helps
