It not only has delicious Japanese ramen and soba, but the prices are very good, especially for London, where it can be difficult to find good meal bargains outside of the pubs. Of course, you pay in a different way at Wagamama; there are no reservations, and the place is very popular, so you're going to wait a bit to get in. The line that forms outside the building leads through a lobby and down a flight of stairs. Seating is at big communal tables, a bit like in a German beer- hall. The style is very much 'eat it and beat it' - sit down, peruse the menu quickly, and order. The orders are punched in electronically, and relayed instantly to the kitchen. The edamame are a tasty and inexpensive appetizer, and the main-dish servings are generous and quite good. Oh, and the whole place is non-smoking. They also consider themselves customer-driven and practice their own form of continuous quality improvement (kaizen), with forms provided for the customers to fill out on how Wagamama can improve its products and services. All in all, I'd consider it a not-miss, especially if one has a hankerin' for a steaming bowl of noodles in London. By the way, Cafe Tokyo in Soho, although nothing at all like Wagamama, also features good food at reasonable prices. There's also a good Vietnamese restaurant serving pho in the West End, but I can't remember where it is.
