Indian : Kalpna (Clerk Street) is the best. Also Ann Purina (St Patricks sq) Conventional : Hendersons (Hanover St ?) for salads etc, Banns (Hunter Sq) never been there but good reputation, Pierre Lapin (may have closed, Hope Park Terrace) a Pierre Victoire offshoot.

Most places, however, serve veggie food. The area around the university has lots of cheap-ish cafe/restaurants which may suit. For something a little formal, try Fenwicks (Salisbury Place) or Howies (3 locations).

If you stretch to fish then head to Leith where there are a few restaurants worth visiting.

Hope this helps.
