I ate at the Gurkha Square in Fleet, Hants. about 2.5 years ago when a friend of mine lived there; it was excellent. If it's still there and still as good I'd recommend it.

Andrew.

Tooting's Radha Krishna Bhavan is astonishingly good value, and there are plenty of other places to try round there too. I'd say most of Tooting's restaurant's are vegetarian, about half south indian or sri lankan (Jaffna House, Amma), and half Gujarati (Milan, Kastoori). There are a few 'non-veg' places in the north indian Punjabi or Pakistani stles. Interestingly what I *don't* think you can find in Tooting is Bangladeshis cooking UK-Punjabi cuisine, which is typically the *only* thing you find on most high streets :)

I'll second that. Radha Krishna Bavan, IIRC, is related to another, more expensive restaurant in Great Russell Street, WC?. Not vegetarian, either. The Jaffna House (Sri Lankan) does great crab curry, very cheap, in the downstairs cafe.

I thought I had seen a place like that in amongst the South Indian ones, but I may be mistaken.

Someone in here (Steven Grace?) recently recommended a South Indian restaurant called Kerala, near Oxford Circus. Can't remember how expensive it was though. A Google search should bring up the reference.

If you want to try genuine South Indian vegetarian food, the number 1 place in my London list is the Dhiwana Bhel Puri House in Drummond Street, by Euston station.

Try Palm Palace in Southall, Middlesex. I have a Goan friend who's been and has said it's very good. There are also many other smaller restaurants in Southall that would do South Indian food...

And having tried both I preferred the one in Farnborough. The black lentils are especially wonderful. My opinion may be biased because the Gurkha Palace had rather more vegetarian dishes on the menu. They are both good restaurants.
