Not only a restaurant, but an 18th Century Inn, the Wheatsheaf at Onneley is reassuringly expensive. Very good food. Only problem is, it's 8 miles outside Newcastle. Head for Madeley and keep going. It's not exactly a la carte but the Azzuri Italian restaurant in Newcastle is really nice.
