I think it's actually called "Tibetan Restaurant" and it can be found at 17 Irving Street, London WC2. The phone number is 020 7839 2090 and it's not a bad idea to book.

Not so - it rather depends on how you like your fish and chips. Want 'em done in lard and have arteries as hard as nails in a year ? Then go north, Blackpool for example. Prefer them fried in something less dangerous, then down south might be a better bet though obviously this is no hard and fast rule.

For absolutely top fish and chips, go to the Two Brothers Fish Restaurant in Regent's Park Road, N3 (nearest tube is Finchley Central). Not only is the food superb but if you're jewish they'll do the batter with matzo meal as well.

I'd recommend the Arbroath Smokies but the cod in batter is quite superb too.

There are lots of London Indian restaurants worth visiting but much of it depends on how deep your pockets are these days. Places like the Chutney Mary and Cafe Spice have taken Indian food very upmarket.

For the price conscious and those looking for something a little more authentic a visit to Drummond Street in Euston NW1 could be a revalation. Check out the Ravi Shankar in particular for some really authentic Indian vegetarian.

Both of which are reviewed at my review of London restaurants at the address below.

Yes! In June.

At Leicester Square there's a street where "Les Miserables" is playing in a theatre. There are also two subway entries, one diagonally across the street from the other. Entering the square and passing a "Mexican" restaurant at your Left, an iron fence and statuary at your Right, continue down to the next street, turn Left and on the Right side there's a Tibetan restaurant that's up a flight of stairs.
There we had the best meal of my two weeks in England and it was
very modest in price. Oh, it wasn't just the best there; I think it would have been regarded as quite good here, too. Because it was my last meal there, my taste had already been Anglified. After London, even the food in Atlanta (my next stop) tasted good.
I believe, but don't know, that our server is the owner. Whoever he
was, he was very knowledgeable and his English was comparable to ours, i.e., fully fluent and easy to understand.

Many people will tell you that the Indian places are where the good food is. No doubt that's true of some Indian restaurants but I found that the Indian restaurants are only relatively good. Were they anywhere but England, they'd be awful.

I ate in a few pubs and found the food to be just fine. Not great but adequate in portion, pleasant in presentation, and reasonable in price.

The several samplings of Fish 'n' Chips I had were too greasy.
I had to force myself to eat the slice of pizza acquired at the
place you'll pass at your Left on the way into Leicester Square near the "Mexican" place.
In a Fish 'n' Chips shop I sampled something that looked like a
breaded sausage. I don't know what it was but it tasted like deep fried grease. Highly avoidable!

You might want to try Mashed Peas during your visit. I don't know whether they're available in London. I had 'em in Blackpool.

My London friend Sunil took me to a place called Khyber Pass in Kentish Town a few years ago. The food was prety good, I thought, but they didn't believe me when I asked for my vindaloo to be *hot*.
