I just came back from London about a month ago and had fantastic meals at:

Mezzo - in Soho (I think)...fantastic skate w/ sauteed spinich Balans - in Soho...really great monkfish Sashs - in Fulhum...oriental tapas that restaurant on top of Harvey Nichols...great people watching

I was too chicken to eat the meat (you never know with the mad cow dieases & all).

If you guys want to grab a cocktail, be sure to visit the Atlantic Bar and get a champagne cocktail which i believe consists of lump of sugar, cognac, topped off with champagne.

Have a great vacation!!

My personal London recommendations would be:

Gastronomy and Intimate Setting: La Tante Claire and Aubergine. Both are in Chelsea. Try to go for lunch, as it's much cheaper than dinner and you don't have to book a month in advance! Atmosphere / Buzz / People Watching: Mezzo (Soho), Atlantic Bar and Grill (Soho) and Kensington Place. Japanese noodles: Wagamama (Soho). Others: The Quality Chop House, Andrew Edmunds. Amazing traditional English breakfast: Simpson's in the Strand. Cheap, quick lunches: Stockpot and Pollo (Old Compton Street).

I was in Paris at the end of September and found it far more expensive than London (weak Pound, strong Franc). No particular recommendations, I'm afraid.

Have a great time....
Jim
