Indian restaurants in London
We have just now come back from London and on our last night went to the Bombay Brasserie, in Courtfield (Road, Gardens whatever) just off Gloucester Road, right across from the Gloucester Road tube station. Beautiful restaurant, great food, excellent service and at 8:30 p.m. they have a 'live' pianist, very romantic, not madly expensive. Very comfortable seating everywhere, and a lovely terrace style dining area. Recommended highly.

Buffet lunches are particularly good value and are excellent quality (not touristy). There is also an extraordinary Ayurvedan restaurant - the Mandeer - which must be the finest value in London at 21 Hanway Place, just off Tottenham Court Road. Brilliant authentic Ayurvedan at £2.90 for complete lunch. Ramesh Patel who owns it is a world authority on Ayurvedan cuisine and medicine...a magical and unique experience. There are of course many well-known Indian restaurants in the guidebooks which are good, but the above ones are I think more genuine, almost wholly Indian clientele, cheaper and better. However there are excellent more conventionally popular ones at: Bombay Brasserie, Gloucester Road, SW3; Red Fort, Dean Street, Soho, W1 and The Bengal Clipper, Shad Thames, Butlers Wharf, SE1. The latter is in an interesting location, next to Tower Bridge (dramatic at night) and opposite Pont de la Tour where Bill Clinton dined with Tony Blair and the two wives recently - three other restaurants and great food shops in the same block too. Just some ideas - but there are so many you will not go too far wrong - it will be interesting to hear your views after the event! David Article 369 of uk.food+drink.restaurants:

It doesn't have to be expensive, just serve good food. Mandeer, just round the corner from Tottenham Court Road tube. (It's sign- posted from the tube) Very cheap, vegetarian, vast portions, Jain, Ayurvedic. Tastes wonderful, and also alleged to be very healthy. pete
If you want good veggie Indian food then Wembly and Harrow are the places to head for, Southall and Ealing have good food from the Punjab, my recommendations are Jhupdi in Harrow for veggie and The Clay Oven in Ealing for Punjabi. Both of these restaurants display their full menus on www.menus-online.co.uk Bill K. wrote in article ... > Greetings > > My wife and I are taking our first trip to the UK in a few days and will be > in London for 3 days. Keep going west until you hit Carlotte Street - the Rasa there is excellent. >Can anyone recommend an Indian restaurant in the Russell Square area? One of the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to has to be The Star of India, though not in Russell Sq. The Restaurant is in South Kensington and the Menu is very "evolved".. Try it.. It's on the Old Brompton Road, SW5
