You could try The Star of India on Old Brompton Road run by Rezrah Mahammed who cooks on Delhi Belly on the Food Channel. You can check his restaurant out on the web first http://www.thestarofindia.co.uk or check a review http://www.hotelworld.com/rest/209.html

Cafe Spice Namaste in the City - I think Prescott Street - is excellent. Totally different type of menu from our local restaurants.

I've just been (Thursday evening) to Mela on Shaftesbury Avenue. Very nice, and even though 9 of us paid for 11 meals (we were there 'cos two of the group were having their office leaving bash) and we added a 10 per cent tip, it still only came to about £40 a head. Service a bit slow, and if you want a cocktail, choose carefully (the margarita was given the thumbs down). The website (http://www.melarestaurant.co.uk) has some good pics of the food as well as the complete menu.

I've also had nice meals in Cafe Naz, which is in Brick Lane. Cafe Spice Namaste that someone else recommended is also OK. Or down the King's Road, you have Vama (haven't been yet) and Chutney Mary's (pricy).

I've reviewed Mela and some of the others on my restaurant review site, URL below.
